The part of the eyelid where the skin folds over is known as the eyelid crease. A normal crease is 6-10mm from the eyelashes. Males tend to have lower creases than females, and patients of Asian descent often have an eyelid crease that is much lower or absent entirely. Some patients have creases that are very asymmetric, and it is important to understand that blepharoplasty surgery (eyelid lift) alone will not correct eyelid crease asymmetry.
Dr Hellman is one of very few surgeons who specializes in eyelid crease surgery. Whether it is creating a crease where one didn’t exist in an Asian double eyelid surgery or raising a low eyelid crease, the effect is similar: a greater degree of visible eyelid below the crease. Dr Hellman recognizes that every eyelid is unique. He will talk to you in front of the mirror about what you are looking for and how he feels that he can achieve those goals.
