Upper lid blepharoplasty is a surgery that removes excess skin, muscle, and/or fat from the upper eyelid. It is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States. Upper lid blepharoplasty is performed by surgeons in multiple specialties, however oculoplastic surgeons have the most specialized training for this procedure.
During your consultation Dr. Hellman will take several measurements to determine the ideal approach for your upper lid blepharoplasty. If the lid crease, the area where the eyelid skin folds over, is too low, Dr. Hellman may recommend a crease elevation procedure. Crease elevation is a technique that Dr. Hellman uses to create the visual effect of more skin removal while maintaining enough skin to close the lids properly. It is also an effective procedure in Asian patients who desire a “double eyelid”.
Dr. Hellman will also evaluate your forehead and brow during the appointment. In many cases a drooping brow can contribute to crowding of the upper lids, and Dr. Hellman may recommend an endoscopic brow lift in addition to upper lid blepharoplasty.
