As we move our face to show expression, lines can be seen on the face. With age, these lines become more permanent and produce an aged appearance. Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a product that can temporarily smooth the lines of the face by paralyzing the involved muscles. It is best used to treat horizontal lines of the forehead and the wrinkles that form in the area just above the nose called the glabella. It can also be used on the sides of the eyes to treat the lines known as crow’s feet. It takes about a week to notice the results, and the treatment usually lasts for about 3 months. While Botox is most commonly used as a cosmetic treatment, it can also be used to treat uncontrolled twitching of the eyelids and/or face and tearing that is resistant to more traditional treatments.
